Kobe Paras Joins UP Men’s Basketball Team

UP head coach Bo Perasol confirmed that Kobe Paras will play for UP Fighting Maroons for the 82nd seaason of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament. Ricci Rivero, his Gilas team mate will join him as well. The 20-year-old player will serve a one-year residency after transferring from Cal State Northridge in California.

Now with a stronger line-up, Paras, Rivero, Akhuetie, and Desiderio aim to give the UP Fighting Maroons a better chance of claiming victory at the UAAP.

“With the addition of Bright and Ricci, the team has gotten better. But we have to keep in mind that all the other schools have worked to get better in the off-season too,” said Perasol. However, Paras will not join the team on their training in Serbia and Croatia due to family matters.

Last June, Kobe mentioned a tweet supporting foreign students to play on UAAP or NCAA. Was this Kobe hinting of his plans eventually?

Paras will follow his father’s legacy. His father Benjie Paras, made history by playing with the UP Fighting Maroons back in 1986.

In contrast, the Filipino-American player revealed on March of this year that he wanted to play as a professional basketball player in the US after leaving Cal State, but things turned out differently.

Recently, the aspiring player launched his own clothing line that encourages Filipinos to be authentic and creative.
